This tutorial is intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy S3 model number GT-I9300. If you don not have that model number, we cannot guarantee that this method will work. This tutorial is intended for Windows PC users. You must have all handset USB drivers installed and enable USB debugging on your phone. Please backup all data on your phone just in case anything goes wrong during the procedure.
Step One: Download the official Jelly Bean update XXDLIB for the I9300. Also download Odin3_v3.04.zip.
Step Two: Extract the XXDLIB files. Also extract the contents of the Odin files to a separate location.
Step Three: Turn off your phone.
Step Four: Reboot your phone in download mode by holding down the Home, Volume Down and Power buttons together.
Step Five: Open Odin. It should have been extracted from the ZIP file and will have a ".exe" suffix on the file.
Step Six: Connect your phone to you computer using the micro-USB-to-USB cord. Odin should immediately detect the phone and display "Added" in the message box. If you do no see an update or notification from Odin, it means that your device is not being properly identified. Check the connection if that's the case or make sure that you've installed all the necessary drivers for your phone.
Step Seven: In Odin, click the "PDA" button. It will prompt you to browse. Find the "*.tar.md5" file that was extracted from the XXDLIB folder.
Step Eight: Make sure that the "re-partition" option in Odin is not selected. If it's not, then choose "Start" in Odin to begin flashing your Galaxy S3 device.
Step Nine: Odin will display a message that says "PASSED" if the process goes without a hitch. The phone will reboot automatically. You will now have Android 4.1.1 on your Samsung Galaxy S3 device.
Step Ten: Enjoy!
